Introduction of cultural relics

This lacquer-covered warehwnware wine container(fang) , is an accurate copy of a bronze vessesl of the Warring states period. It is square in cross-section with a pear-shaped body sitting on a tall,splayed foot. The surface is painted with black lacquer and decorated in red with a frieze of pendent triangles below the neck. A bronze version, incised with a Han inscription, formerly in the Arthur M.Sackler collection, is now in a private collection. This earthenware fang was excavated from the tomb of a low-rankong individual whose status has been identified as that of the official in charge of jade carving at eh imperial workshop.
