Zhu Da (1626-1705), whose given name was Tong, and pseudonym was Xuege, Geshan, or Ba Da Shan Ren, was native of Nanchang, and the descendent of Zhu Quan, who was the King of Ning in the Ming Dynasty. Renowned as the four painting monks in early Qing Dynasty, he was engaged in calligraphy and painting, and his style has great influences on the ink wash freehand paintings afterwards.
